Haryana reign supreme, Orissa miss medal

Haryana judokas maintained their domination by winning three gold, one silver and four bronze medals at the end of ninth event of the Junior National Championship at KIIT University campus in Bhubaneswar today. Uttar Pradesh followed Haryana at the second place with two golds, while Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi, Kerala and Manipur claimed one yellow metal each. Host Orissa narrowly missed its first medals when Basant Dalai finished fourth after being beaten by Haryana’s Sanjay. Dalai earlier won two bouts, defeating Aman Ali Khan (Maharashtra) and Anurag Chowbey (MP). Results: Girls 17-20 years: 48kg: 1. Y Sangita (Man), 2. Sarita (Har), 3. Stanley Fernandez (Del) and Sonam (Mah). Girls 14-17 years: 44kg: 1. P Aswathi (Ker), 2. Gaganpreet Kaur (Raj), 3. Lal Muzuali (Miz) and Karni (Har). Boys 14-17: 50kg: 1. Gourav (Har), 2. Harmeet (Pun), 3. Yallapa (Kar) and Devang Bhatia (Guj). 55kg: 1. Subash (UP), 2. Amit (Pun), 3. Sanjay (Har) and Poonam Chand (Raj).
